Ten More Saturdays

Cook gonna be back 4 more

We are ten Saturdays away people. Next week we will be in the single digits. I’m getting excited. I’m starting to believe in this squad. In the immortal words of Michael Scott: “No question about it, I am ready to get hurt again.”

In the meantime, let’s talk about the third opponent on our schedule.

We host South Carolina in Athens for the first time since we screwed the pooch against them in 2019. What makes that game worse is I was in attendance with two of my uncles who are huge Carolina fans. It was a microcosm of everything that could and did go wrong with the offense in the 2019 season. That was a long time ago now. Many of their studs on the defensive side of the ball are gone now. Even the coach, Will Muschamp is working for the good guys. Needless to say, things are different.

Former UGA coach Shane Beamer (TE/Special Teams 2016–17)has taken the reigns and he has quite the rebuild on his hands. In the age of the early signing day, it makes it harder to keep and build the very first class. Case in point, Beamer’s 2021 class ranked 80th overall and last in the SEC. They filled much of the class with transfers, but they aren’t heralded from major programs and are more likely coming for the opportunity to start for a major college program.

They have some pieces left over from the Muschamp era that could have some upside, but the depth is just not there and won’t be for a while. I think Beamer could have some success, but it won’t be in 2021. We won last year’s game 45–16. This year’s game, at home, should be by a similar margin. We could shut them out and if some RBs break some late runs in the fourth, we could hang half a hundred on them.

Here to talk UGA Football lovingly. FU football realistically. And other things SEC/College Football related.
