Georgia is fresh off another skunking of an SEC team. They demolished Arkansas 37–0 in Athens and I’m not sure it was even that close. The crowd came to party for a noon game and caused two false start penalties on the first two plays from scrimmage for Arkansas. They really couldn’t get anything going on offense the entire game and their fun little story of redemption came crashing to a halt. Hat tip to what head coach Sam Pittman has accomplished, but the fact remains they don’t have the type of depth of playmakers to hang with a team like Georgia yet.
However a new narrative has begun: Georgia hasn’t played anyone.
Clemson has looked a little less than usual dominant self, so our win over them gets devalued. Our other three wins are on Group of 5 team UAB, SEC dregs South Carolina and Vandy, so how good can Georgia be? Now the story is Arkansas was overrated so we must not be that good. I’m sure the story this weekend will be all about Auburn and the amazing win they had in Death Valley against LSU. They will talk about how tough it is to play in Jordan Hare Stadium in Auburn. Then when we go in and demolish them we will hear again about how Auburn wasn’t that good.
Which is fine.
Auburn isn’t that good. Bo Nix couldn’t do anything against us last year, and now he has two less good WRs to throw to. Honestly, Tank Bigsby at RB is the only player who would get first team reps for our offense. Auburn used to sneak into Georgia and pluck some good talent. That stopped once Kirby got the job. Their 2018 class was ranked 3rd in the SEC, 2019 was ranked 6th, 2020 was ranked 5th, and 2021 in the midst of a coaching change they ranked 7th. Georgia was ranked higher every year. Our OL is better than theirs. Our DL is better than theirs. Our skill guys are better than theirs. Auburn will not be able to hang with the Dawgs, but don’t let the national media know that.
I sincerely hope people keep doubting us. Keep underestimating Georgia. Keep talking about the other teams. Keep thinking our offense sucks. Keep thinking we can’t win the big one.
We believe. The guys in that locker room believe.
